Centre for Marine Ecosystems Research

Overview

Relevant research for better management

The Centre for Marine Ecosystems Research (CMER) brings together researchers with an interest in the functioning of marine ecosystems. The centre’s goal is to undertake applied and fundamental research that improves our understanding of coastal marine ecosystems. Broadly, our research investigates ecological processes in coastal marine systems and how these respond to pressures, either natural or human-induced. CMER’s main research themes are Habitat connectivity and trophic interactions, Management of human impacts, Conservation and fisheries biology, and Stress and disturbance ecology. Research in these themes encompasses a wide range of reef and seagrass ecosystems, from tropical to temperate environments.

2010 WAMSI-AMSA WA Show and Tell Symposium

The WAMSI-AMSA WA Marine Science in Western Australia: Show and Tell symposium was held at the Western Australian Maritime Museum on Tuesday, 9 February 2010.  This event gave researchers the chance to share their own research and get a glimpse at the work currently being undertaken in marine science in WA.

The symposium was based around current ‘hot topics’ and themes in marine science stretching from the Kimberly down to the South Coast. CMER was well represented at the event with Adam, Pippa, Charu, Gary, Britta, Glenn and Candace each providing a one-minute overview of their current research.
